Author: Cassandra Clare
The story, written by writer Cassandra Clare, takes places in New York and tells the story of the nefilim, people who hunt demons and other evil creatures to protect human kind. Clary, the main character, is a redhead teenager who goes one night to a famous club called Pandemonium, and there she witnesses a curious murder, which makes her enter the world of the nefilim and also start to discover her own true nature.
In the story, she meets Jace, a mysterious boy, and siblings Alec and Isabelle. All of them are nefilim. At first, only Jace seems to like her but this changes a bit when the story ends (though I never found it believable) Simon, her best friend, is in love with her, and has to face the fact that, obviously, she doesn't feel the same for him. I can't say anything remarkable about the characters. Though I like them, none of them really made a huge impression on me, they don't mean anything to me. Of course, this is only the beginning of the trilogy so I'll have to wait to read the next two books to see if that changes.
The plot is interesting enough to make you carry on reading, but I don't think it'll become one of my favourite books. I feel like it lacks of something. The ending feels a little rushed and not a "real ending", but more like a "to be continued". And also, I don't know what to think of Clary and Jace being siblings. I mean, they kissed. A LOT. PASSIONATELY. And now they're brother and sister?!! This isn't like Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker, because they were about to kiss but never did it. CLARY AND JACE KISSED!!!! uuugh. I hope it isn't true because it would be too gross to deal with.
